Welcome to a verbal and visual representation of the incredible actor, musician,
and artist that is Johnny Depp.  Formerly known as "
Got Depp" the site has now
        been renamed "
Deppictions" in honor of the numerous characterizations he has
acquainted us with for over two decades.  The majority of the site content remains
the same for those of you who are regular visitors.   Feel free to look around, and I
do hope to hear from some of you regarding the new site design.  Enjoy and thank
you for taking the time to visit Deppictions.

Sweeney Todd is coming for you bitches.  And you won't even know it because you'll be
mesmerized by his awesome Cruella hair as he slits your pretty throat and sings a jolly
tune.
What can I say?  I'm excited to finally - FINALLY! -  hear the soft dulcet tones of this
man who has consumed my life for more than 20 years.  Well it's more than I can
bear at the moment.

To then have to listen to a bunch of theater snobs spout off about how poorly his
singing is just rubs my epidermis the wrong way.

Theater and cinema have two entirely different interpretations of storytelling.  Why
anyone would think to even compare the two is beyond my comprehension.
Sondheim himself approved the final cast for this film (a measure of respect and a
mark of just how tremendous director Tim Burton is in his own right)  so I'm thinking
perhaps the issue should be taken up with Sondheim personally.  Any takers?

The same stupid argument reared it's ugly head when Gerard Butler played the lead
in The Phantom of the Opera.  Heaven forbid his singing voice not be perfectly
operatic!  Never mind that he gave every ounce of raw passion to the role.  Never
mind that women were sitting on the edge of their seats fanning themselves and
hoping that he would never ever ever stop drawing them in to his world of pain and
madness.  The ignorance of it all overwhelms me with sadness at the fact that
people can be so pitiably closed-minded.

Johnny Depp has been an incredible force in the world of cinema for two decades.
Pathetically, it had to take the general public three Disney films to finally realize his
astounding accomplishments as an actor.  Better late than never I guess.  But to say
that Johnny Depp does not have what it takes to make the role of Sweeney Todd
everything it can be and more simply because he doesn't hit each note precisely like
the wonderful George Hearn just confounds me.  Are we not allowed to tell a beloved
story in our own fashion?  Must we all drone on in the same monotone babble, never
wavering an ounce in the pattern or flow of the tale?  Sounds extremely dull and
uninspiring to me.

Johnny Depp is going to shine through no matter how he sings simply by the sheer
personal magnetism of the man. He makes his vocals radiate through
overwhelming emotive power, some real acting chops, and the physical presence to
carry off the role.  Isn't that the point of it all?

In conclusion, shut the fuck up and watch the movie. Or don't.  There will be plenty of
people to fill up the seats you don't purchase tickets for.
