Johnny: ““When I met him (Jung) and read the book, I realized that the whole thing was not that simpler.  He was doing what he knew best.  What he got from his upbringing.  He became exactly what he didn’t want to be: a greedy person who doesn’t think of anything other than money, just like his mother. I figured that my goal would be to take what seemed to be nothing but a party-boy and turn him into a real man that you can relate to.”
Director Ted Demme: I wanted an actor to give me George Jung. I didn’t want a move star to come in and star in “Blow”.  I really wanted the guy to be George.  Johnny has done that on every film.  You put Edward Scissorhands, Ed Wood, Donnie Brasco, and George in the same room and they don’t look alike at all.  I needed someone who was also sexy -  someone who would walk into a room and everyone would be like, ‘Wow – who is that guy?’ ”
Author Denis Meikle: ““It has been luxuriously present throughout most his career, but in “Blow”, Depp’s hair takes on a starring role of it’s own, from youthful blonde mop-top to prison-grey ponytail and all forms in between, it is his single best physical asset as an actor next to his eyes; a personal prop which is ever at his disposal to aid and abet characterization.”
“After reading the story and speaking to George a few times, I started to see a lot of similarities between the two of us.  When I started acting, I didn’t really want all of this, but then money started rolling in at a rate that I never could have imagined.  One thing led to another, and I was suddenly on this kind of a rise, and there was no stopping it.  That is what happened to George; he saw what he was doing as a business, a lucrative business that was risky and illegal, so he would stay in for a while, make the money, then retire.”
